I have Read a lot of people on the Ubuntu Fourms having issues with Acer AOD250 with Wifi, Webcam, and Sound. Lets get down to it…
****Note: Start with a Fresh Install if you can. If not this may or may not work due to other software/drivers installed. Also I used Ubuntu 9.10, on Acer Aspire One 250 Model: KAV60 1.13.
Wifi Fix I fixed the wifi issue by using the proprietary STA Driver After install I went into
System > Administration > Hardware Drivers
Removed B43 and Installed STA Driver Then Rebooted
Yay it works!
Webcam For this I just installed “luvcview”
sudo apt-get install luvcview
To test it I used “cheese”
Applications > Sound & video > Cheese Photo Booth
It does take 15 sec to start the video.
Yay! we got webcam!!
Sound
Download Alsa Driver and install it I used the following commands
wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2
tar xjvf alsa-driver-1.0.20.tar.bz2
cd alsa-driver-1.0.20
sudo apt-get install build-essential module-assistant
./configure –with-cards=all
make
Install it
sudo make install
Reboot
Yay we got our mic
Thank you for this. Were there any other issues that pathetic non-geeks should know about switching to Ubuntu on the Aspire one KAV60? I tried to test it out while keeping windows by using an external cd drive. I used Ubuntu desktop 10.10, but didn’t try to do much.
My geek friends took off and I sheepishly went back to windows. Would video and sound have worked? It sounds like this notebook may be too old.
I bow to your wisdom and hope for an understandable answer.
Try the Ubuntu windows install where you don’t have to reformat you hdd and try it that way.
Tried this but got errors on the Make ….See below
cp: cannot stat `snd-hrtimer.ko’: No such file or directory
